Having the Courage to Ask

March 2, 2009

One of the most important action items that a leader can have is to ask questions of those around him or her. Based on studies that have been done, it’s been proven that the most effective leaders are those that take the time to seek wisdom and advice from those around them and then follow-up with results based on suggestions and input. Unfortunately, it’s often the case that leaders are afraid to ask for suggestions and feedback from others, because they are afraid of the answers. Additionally, it’s sometimes the case that a leader over-rates his or her performance and can thereby justify not asking others for their contributions. To grow a successful business, it’s best to utilize every component of the team, and to do so, all a leader has to do is have the courage to ask.
